Basic Compound Definition

A bow where the draw is mechanically varied by a system of pulleys or cams with no draw stop. Maximum draw weight will be 20lbs. No sight, stabilizer, peep or kisser button, and shot only with fingers (glove, tab or bare fingers) are allowed. An arrow rest will be permitted.

By definition, a Basic Compound is a compound bow and will be combined with other compound bow categories unless there is a specific Basic Compound category offered in registration.

Fixed Pins Definition

USA Archery will adhere to the Compound Division of World Archery rules with the following exceptions:

  • Sight: Any sight pin, ring, and/or dot that is used without the aid of magnification. A lens with zero magnification is allowable. Clarifiers and Verifiers will be permitted. No adjustments to equipment are allowed during a round\.
  • Stabilizers: A front stabilizer (or a system including quick releases, enhancers and/or weights) may be used, but may not exceed twelve inches (12”) in total length from the tip of the stabilizer (or system) to the point of attachment on the front of the riser provided by the manufacturer.  A single rear stabilizer or a single counter balance weight system may be used, with no restriction in length as measured from the point of attachment on the riser.
  • Outer 10-ring scoring – indoor.
  • \Once the qualification round beings, there will be no further adjustments allowed. Each match during elimination rounds is its own "round" and adjustments can be made after each match.

Note: The U.S. National 3-D Collegiate Championship and Collegiate 3-D Regionals events (only) will follow Archery Shooter's Association equipment rules with the following clarifications:

  • There is no poundage limit, however ASA speed limitations apply for each given division 
  • Collegiate Fixed Pins competitors must abide by the USA Archery Collegiate Archery Program rule “any sight pin or ring that is used without the aid of magnification” at all 3D events (USA Archery Collegiate 3D Regionals and USA Archery Collegiate 3D Nationals) 
  • Collegiate Fixed Pins competitors must abide by the USA Archery Collegiate Archery Program rule “A single rear stabilizer or a single counter balance weight system may be used, with no restriction in length as measured from the point of attachment on the riser” at all 3D events (USA Archery Collegiate 3D Regionals and USA Archery Collegiate 3D Nationals).  
  • Per Archery Shooter’s Association equipment rules, “The maximum diameter of arrow shafts will not exceed .422"; the field or glue-in point for these arrows may have a maximum diameter of .425"
  • Per Archery Shooter’s Association equipment rules, archers are permitted to utilize electronic sight lights and other electronic devices

State Championship Eligibility

Participants must be a resident of the state in which the event is held to be eligible to earn state championship titles and a state ranking.  Guest divisions will be permitted at the Local Organizing Committee's discretion. District of Columbia residents may earn state championship honors in the state of their USA Archery club affiliation.
