USA Archery is offering an online Judge Certification Course for Level 1, Level 2 Certified and Level 3 National Judges on the USA Archery Education Hub, making it easier than ever to advance your archery career.
Archery events depend on judges to run safely, smoothly, and ensure a level playing field for all archers. The USA Archery Judge Certification Program upholds an international standard of event judging at all levels of competition within USA Archery.
USA Archery’s Judge Certification program includes three course level options. Please note, if you have a current U.S. Center for SafeSport training or a current USA Archery Background Screen you do not need to resubmit. U.S. Center for SafeSport Training for members under age 18 will require parental consent
What changes have been made to the USA Archery Judge Certification levels?
Judge courses are completed online through the USA Archery Education Hub. Follow the steps below for new judge certifications and certification renewal:
Register for appropriate Judge Course or Refresher Course
Once registered, users will select Access Online Courses in the far-left menu
Users will be automatically directed to the USA archery Education Hub and the appropriate course will appear on their Dashboard
Once all requirements are complete, and the course(s) have been passed, the user's judge certification will automatically update in their USA Archery Membership Services Account
Will USA Archery accept World Archery Online National Judge Course completion for the USA Archery National Judge Certification?
USA Archery will not accept the World Archery Americas Online National Judge Course in place of the USA Archery Level 3 National Judge Course. The USA Archery courses are designed specifically for USA Archery judges and USA Archery events.
I previously took a USA Archery Regional Judge Seminar, will I have to take the online course when I renew my certification?
If you have attended a USA Archery Regional Judge Seminar, World Archery Americas Continental Judge Seminar, or World Archery Judge Seminar within three years of your certification expiration date please email to Contact USA Archery within 60 days of renewal.
Register for the USA Archery Online Level 1 Judge Course
- The course cost is $40

USA Archery recommends Level 1 Judges obtain experience judging USA Archery Local level events prior to obtaining a Level 2 Judge Certification.
Register for the USA Archery Online Level 2 Certified Judge Course
- The course cost is $50
To access the online course, return or log in to your Member Account. In the far left-hand menu select Access Online Courses. You will be automatically directed to the USA Archery Education Hub where you will complete your online course.
Following certification, judges should look to gain additional experience at local and state events to perfect their skills. Judges who wish to proceed to a Level 3 Judge will need to apply to judge at indoor and outdoor national level events (shadow judge) within 5 years of the Level 3 Judge practical course to gain the necessary experience.
The USA Archery Level 3 National Judge Certification supports the continued development of judges qualified to officiate at local, state, and national events. Online course content and the in-person Level 3 National Judge practical are designed to increase judge knowledge, understanding, and application of skills.
Certification Information:
The Level 3 National Judge certification requires completion of an online course as well as an in-person practical assessment. Separate registration is required for the practical which will be held prior to USA Archery National and/or USAT events (contact Contact USA Archery for schedule).
Certification Period: 3 Years following successful completion of practical assessment
Level 3 National Judge Online Course
Couse Length: The online course takes approximately 4 hours to complete

- The course cost is $75

Practical Session Cost: $105 (subject to change annually)
Course Content: During the in-person portion of this course, students will examine and discuss case studies, rule interpretations and rehearse practical situations and procedures. In addition, each candidate will demonstrate competency in the following areas:
Field of Play
Timing and Line Control
Scoring
Elimination Rounds
Team Rounds
Ties
Chairperson of Judges
Jury of Appeal
Field Competitions
3D Competitions
Interpretations
Prerequisites
Minimum Age: 20
Valid Level 2 Certified Judge for a minimum of two years
Completed Judge duty at one or more USA Archery National level outdoor tournaments in the previous five years; and
Completed Judge duty at one or more USA Archery National Indoor Tournaments in the previous five years
USA Archery will send a survey to Level 2 Judges in the first quarter of each year to obtain details from judges interested in completing the Level 3 Practical Course.
Practical Length: Approximately 3-4 hours. World Archery certified International and/or Continental Judges will facilitate the practical.
Please note: the World Archery National Judge Online Course does not satisfy USA Archery Judge Certification Prerequisites.
LEVEL 3 JUDGE - PRACTICAL COURSE REGISTRATION

USA Archery Judge Emeritus
The title of USA Archery Judge Emeritus is awarded to USA Archery Judge for distinguished judge and official service to USA Archery. Nominations are provided by the Officials and Rules Advisory Council and must be ratified by USA Archery Board of Directors.
World Archery Continental Judge
USA Archery Judges who wish to officiate Continental events (World Archery Americas, WAA) may apply for Continental Judge candidacy after meeting the following criteria:
Current USA Archery Level 3 National Judge Certification for two years
Participate in a World Archery Americas Continental Judge
Pass the World Archery Americas Continental Judge Exam with 85% or higher
Share results of World Archery Americas Continental Judge Exam with USA Archery to Contact USA Archery

WAA Continental Judge Certification is valid for four years. Renewal process will include:
Letter of re-accreditation request submitted by each Continental Judge.
Letter of re-accreditation support submitted by each Continental Judges’ national federation.
WAA Judges Committee´s review of the assessments of each judge made by their commission chairs.
WAA Judges Committee’s review of whether the judge has been active in the four-year period by making themselves available to officiate at least at one event in the period.
Written open book exam with a minimum of 85% correct answers to the exam.
Other requirements that the Committee may consider. In this case, the new requisites shall be informed to the judges at least 6 months before Jan. 1 of the year in which the re-accreditation process is conducted.

World Archery International Judge
USA Archery Judges who wish to officiate World Archery events may apply for candidacy after meeting the following criteria:

Without judges, local programs can’t grow because a lot of clubs don’t have funds to send their kids to tournaments that require travel for their first event experience. So, if they can host tournaments with local judges, they can give kids local opportunities to grow and improve._
